Victim Support Southwark, in partnership with Southwark Housing and Refuge, provides a sanctuary scheme for victims of domestic violence who wish to remain in their own homes.
The scheme provides victims with a secure room to which they and their family can retreat to in an emergency as well as strengthening locks, door frames and windows. A panic alarm is also installed, linking clients to a 24 hour response centre - Police give an immediate response to registered sanctuary addresses.
Before any work is carried out a full risk assessment for the victim is completed, which will confirm their eligibility. Through this we can ensure that the sanctuary scheme is only put in place where it will do what it should - improve the victim's safety.
For those victims that aren't suitable for the Sanctuary Scheme, other safeguards will be offered.
