Using this website confidentially
What to do if you don't want anyone to know that you have visited this site
The safest way to prevent someone finding out what websites you have visited is to use a computer they don't have access to; this could be at a local library, a friend's house or an internet café.
Alternatively, you can adjust your personal computer settings to ensure that the websites you visit are not stored on the local hard drive or in your computer's browser settings.
Following the steps below may help you reduce the possibility of someone tracing the websites you have visited.
On Netscape
- Pull down Edit menu, select Preferences
- Click on Navigator and choose 'clear history'
- Click on Advanced and select Cache
- Click on 'clear disk cache'
On older versions of Netscape: pull down Options menu; select Network options, select Cache. Click on 'clear disk cache'
On Internet Explorer
- Pull down Tools menu, select Internet Options
- On the General page, under Temporary Internet Files, click on 'delete files'
- Under History click on 'clear history'
On AOL
- Pull down Members menu, select preferences
- Click on WWW icon and select Advanced

Email Safety
Below are some tips to make sure your email is secure
- Set up a new email address with one of the free web mail services e.g. yahoo, hotmail or lycos
- Regularly delete messages from your inbox and recycle bin/deleted items folders as soon as you have read them
- Remove your email service provider's website from your browser history
- Choose a password for your email account that will be difficult for anyone to guess. Make sure it is at least eight characters long and try to include both letters and numbers. Avoid using birth-dates, names of pets, friends or family members or anything else that someone might associate with you.
